The BEDG is a unique organisation with a passion for design at the heart of their foundation. I have exhibited with the group over the last decade and the BEDG have, and continue to be, an integral support structure for my company and many others alike. Perhaps an unsung hero in the journey of the designer and maker but never to be underestimated for their strength, determination and vision in supporting emerging and established British talent.

RVID, the Industrial Designers Society of Railway Vehicles, hosts the 2018 International Workshop on Railway Vehicle Industrial Design from November 21-23. This is the most important event in China for research and development in railway design. Organised by china's largest state rolling stock manufacturer - CCRC Qingdao Sifang.

CRRC Sifang-Imperial Centre for Rail Transportation Manufacturing Technologies

The CRRC Sifang-Imperial Centre will focus on developing rail technologies to streamline the construction and testing of high speed trains, so that they are safer, more cost effective and environmentally friendly. Using the latest manufacturing techniques, the researchers aim to create trains that are made from advanced materials and fewer components, making them lighter and more fuel efficient.

The new Centre will be based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and headed by Professor Jianguo Lin, a world-leading expert in using materials processing and moulding or plasticity technologies for the production of structural components, with applications in the transport industry.
